My name is Ruka Aderogba and I am currently majoring in biochemistry at Hunter College. My interest in neuroscience ranges from the role the environment plays on the development of the brain from the molecular to the behavioral level.

Over the summer I completed an internship program at the NYU’s Center for Neuroscience SURP’s program under the mentorship of Evelyn Chen and Chiye Aoki.  I will continue my research with the Aoki lab during the school year.

My goal is to apply to an MD/PhD program and focus my research on the connection between the gut microbiome, neural developments and disorders of the brain.  As with many of the complexities of the brain, I believe that there is a nexus between the microorganisms around us and neuronal development.  As a medical scientist I would be afforded the opportunity to continuously conduct research that may answer great questions about the neurobiological basis of neurodegenerative disorders and help improve lives.
